The Benton County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (BCARES) is a group of amateur radio operators who are willing to assist emergency services and municipal agencies in an emergency or disaster. The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a part of the American Radio Relay League. Contact the League for more information about ARES or amateur radio. Our main function is serving as one of the units that provide volunteers to the Benton Co. Sheriff's Office of Emergency Service. We provide radio communications and support from both base camp and the field. We also provide support communications for other agencies and community organizations. BCARES members are specialists in various forms of radio communications modes, including computerized packet radio, short and long distance voice and Morse code, even amateur radio television. To be an amateur radio operator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires that individuals pass examinations in technical and regulatory competence. BCARES periodically offers license classes and examinations. Please check our calendar for upcoming classes. |
